Brian A. Lade

Brian Lade is a Mechanical Engineer who graduated from the Univ. of Toronto, Canada in 1975. He is married with two daughters, and lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is a registered professional engineer in Alberta.

Brian joined Syncrude Canada Ltd. directly after graduation, and has been actively engaged in its growth and development and operations for more than 39 years. Syncrude is a pioneering producer of Synthetic Crude Oil derived from the Canadian Oil Sands deposits. It is a complex & highly integrated mining, extraction, utilities and refining/ upgrading operation that has the capacity to produce more than 400 k BPSD of light sweet synthetic crude, making it the second largest such operation in the Oil Sands.

Brian is currently serving as the Senior Mechanical Quality Advisor within Syncrude’s Project Development & Execution organization. During the last major expansion for Syncrude during the 2000 to 2006 period, he served as the Asset Integrity and Quality Manager for that > $ 7 Billion project, as it added ~ 100 k BPD in capacity to the complex.

Brian is an avid photographer and skier who enjoys travel, wines, and learning new cultures with family and friends. He is also deeply interested in pressure equipment safety and has served for more than 7 years as a member and as chair of Alberta’s Boilers & Pressure Vessels Technical Council, providing advice to industry and government on safety programs, certifications and technical standards.
