Carlo Mapelli

Born in 1973 in Inzago (MI), he graduated in Materials Engineering at the Milan Polytechnic in October 1998. In 2002 he was awarded the Daccò Prize of the Italian Metallurgy Association for research aimed at understanding microsegregation phenomena in steels with improved machinability for mechanical uses. In January 2003 he obtained the PhD in Metallurgical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin. In November 2004 he was awarded the Felice De Carli Medal of the Italian Association of Metallurgy for the researches developed on the problems related to the plastic deformation of metals. Since 1 January 2010 he has been Full Professor in the Materials section of the Mechanics Department of the Milan Polytechnic and since 2012 he has been responsible for the Materials for Mechanical Applications section in the same department. From 2012 to 2014 he was Ilva’s technical consultant for the application of the AIA and for the adoption of new technical solutions. He was elected president of the Italian Metallurgy Association for the two-year period 2014-2016. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Siderweb, Finarvedi and Manni Group.
