Brian Lade is a Mechanical Engineer who graduated from the University of Toronto in 1975. He is married and lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is a registered professional engineer in Alberta.

Brian joined Syncrude Canada Ltd. directly after university, and was actively engaged in its growth, development and operations for more than 46 years. Syncrude is a pioneering producer of Synthetic Crude Oil derived from the Canadian Oil Sands deposits. Brian consults part-time since retirement in 2021; continuing to work on safety and reliability challenges in Syncrude & Suncor facilities including industrial valve specifications and applications.

Brian is deeply interested in pressure equipment safety, and served for 9 years as a member and as chair of Alberta’s Pressure Equipment Sub-Council, providing advice on safety programs, certifications and technical standards. He continues to volunteer in support of the Canadian CSA Standard B51 “Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Pressure Piping Code”.
