Italy is Azerbaijan’s main country for oil export

The state visit by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Italy this week is an important milestone which strengthens the cooperation between the two countries. Italy is one of the main countries for oil export for Azerbaijan and according to the sides, there is the possibility to consolidate collaboration in sectors such as science, tourism, infrastructure, construction, transport agriculture and industrial production.

According to Giulietto Chiesa, ”The Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and Italy, signed several years ago, gave a significant impulse to cooperation and brought bilateral relations to a higher level.”

Brazil decides to stay out from OPEC to maximize its output expansion

Brazil does not have any plans to join OPEC at the moment, although the country is open to cooperation with the organization.

According to the energy minister Bento Albuquerque, Petrobras has a lot of oil and a number of areas to exploit and is looking for more investment from global companies in the oil market to upcoming auctions.

Brazil is set to expand its output in the coming years and join the top five energy exporters in the next decade.

Vaalco Energy discovers oil in the offshore Gabon

The US-based company Vaalco Energy has encountered oil sands in the new step out area with South East Etam 4P appraisal wellbore offshore Gabon.

According to Vaalco, the discovery contains similar reservoir quality as exists at the South East Etame 2H well.

Vaalco’s Chief Executive Officer Cary Bounds, commented, “We are delighted by the continued success from our 2019/2020 drilling campaign, where we have now successfully confirmed additional resources from the two appraisal wellbores and brought two development wells online above predrill expectations. We believe that the 2019/2020 drilling campaign has been transformational for VAALCO and set us on the path to achieve our ambitious organic growth plans”.

Oil demand to peak in 2040 according to IMF

Global oil demand will significantly decelerate and peak around 2040. This according to a document on the future of oil issued by the International Monetary Found.

As stated by IMF, improvements in renewable energy and the increasing push for environmental protection are the major factors of a “gradually slowing—and eventually declining—global demand for oil”.

The general demand for natural gas is also expected to slow, although it will probably remain positive in the coming decades.

IMF also declared that slowing global oil demand spells a “significant fiscal sustainability challenge for the GCC region”.

OPEC considers production cuts until June due to Coronavirus

The fast drop of oil prices during the past week due to coronavirus has caused a remarkable alarm among OPEC members who are evaluating the option to extend the cut of the production until June.

At the time being, OPEC is closely watching the evolution of the market together with the expansion of the virus, and the first signs do indicate that the epidemic will be less violent than the SARS exploded in 2003.

However, it will be necessary to wait some more weeks to have a better picture of the situation.

Leading the global market flow

ENI, together with Eni New Energy has officially inaugurated a new photovoltaic plant in Porto Torres with a capacity of 31 MW. The new plant was built on the Eni Rewind’s areas. The annual output will be of 50 GWh, 70% of which will be self-consumed by the utilities connected to the Versalis net.

This is the second plant built by Eni in Sardinia. The project aims to the requalification of industrial areas for the realisation of renewable energy production plants. This according to the company’s strategy for the energy transition.

Norway’s Kongsberg Group acquires Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine (RRCM).

Completion of acquisition by Kongsberg of Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine has been completed on April 1, 2019. The parties have agreed a value for Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine of GBP 500 million. With this acquisition Kongsberg group becomes a more complete technology supplier. Today, Kongsberg Maritime’s equipment is installed on more than 30,000 vessels worldwide.

Subsea 7 has been awarded two engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contracts from Saudi Aramco. These include three oil production deck manifolds and subsea pipelines in Zuluf field and subsea pipelines in Berri field. Offshore execution is due to start in 2020.

CMHI approved for arctic drilling unit

DNV GL has approved China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) for an arctic single column drilling unit and a wind turbine shuttle. DNV GL said that the certificates confirm that it assessed each of the two designs according to class rules. The arctic single column drilling unit (SCDU) consists of a round floater with an upper and a lower hull, an enclosed deckhouse, and a round footing.
